Fifty years before it became the ATB Financial TransAlta Arts Barns, this building was the Southside service garage for Edmonton Transit. After the buses pulled out, this industrial facility saw a number of structural and functional facelifts as various organizations began the gradual process of transforming the barns into a cultural and community space.

Winspearation '97 saw over 60,000 people pass through Edmonton's new Winspear Centre, and the word spread quickly around the world as to the excellence of the acoustics as well as the facility.
