"If you follow jazz in Edmonton at all, you've heard their names before, but suffice to say, they'rethe best of the busiest generation in town." - Roger Levesque Freelance, Edmonton JournalThe Edmonton Jazz Orchestra (EJO) is Edmonton’s professional, large, concert jazz ensemble consisting of many of the city’s finest jazz musicians, several of which are nationally recognized recording artists. This premiere ensemble explores the traditions of the jazz repertoire while also presenting existing and new works by leading Canadian jazz composers. The mandate of the EJO is to create a professional structure where jazz musicians can conceive, compose, arrange, rehearse and perform the art form of large ensemble jazz in a concert setting. This will in turn create a leading ensemble for Edmontonians to be proud of but as well an inspirational, leading ensemble for young musicians to aspire to. Allmost all members of the EJO are involved in jazz education. In February 2009 the EJO began a partnership with the Jazzworks band festival. This will has brought over 500 young musicians and educators in contact with the Edmonton Jazz Orchestras in a series of workshops as well as a live performance by the Edmonton Jazz Orchestra at the world renowned jazz club, the Yardbird Suite.
