David Virelles
BIOGRAPHY
Born in Cuba in 1983, David Virelles comes by his musical talent honestly. His father is a singer-songwriter, his mother a flautist in the Santiago de Cuba Symphony. At age seven, he began studying classical piano in Cuba’s prestigious music schools. Canadian Latin-jazz legend Jane Bunnett brought David to Canada as her protégé when he was 16. He’s since appeared on her Juno-award winning recording “Radio Guantanamo”; graduated from Humber College; performed with prominent jazz musicians; and released his début album, “Motion”. His quintet’s improvisations are highly listenable, owing to the members’ remarkable musicianship and sense of interaction.
