David Liebman
BIOGRAPHY
Born in Brooklyn, David Liebman began classical piano and saxophone lessons at a young age; by the late 1960s he was touring with John Coltrane and Miles Davis. After a tour with Chick Corea, Liebman formed the David Liebman Quintet with John Scofield, Kenny Kirkland and Terumasa Hino in the late 1970s. Liebman united with guitarist Vic Juris, bassist Tony Marino and drummer Marko Marcinko in 1991. The group pursued an eclectic range of recording projects, from jazz standards to Puccini arias and original adaptations from Coltrane and Davis’ repertoires. The quartet’s repertoire balances the past, present and future with original compositions incorporating a range of styles.
