Andy Bey Trio
BIOGRAPHY
Andy Bey is hailed as a cultural phenomenon and pop icon, applauded by contemporary music’s tastemakers, including Pharrell Williams, Mos Def and Jamie Cullum, who gain pleasure and enlightenment from Bey’s masterful performances. The styles Bey heard growing up in New Jersey greatly affected his art and appear in his distinctive singing approach. At the age of five, this piano prodigy played boogie-woogie in Newark clubs, and his early tastes in music were eclectic: jazz, pop, gospel, blues --even opera. Bey’s influences include Hank Jones, Horace Silver, Bud Powell, Nat “King” Cole, Sarah Vaughan, Billie Holiday, Dinah Washington, Frank Sinatra, Golden Gate Quartet, Louis Jordan, Wynonie Harris, and Enrico Caruso.
